Despite the fact that most of the other 5 star reviews appear to be from friends or ralatives, I have to agree that this was a most enjoyable story. Being of a similar age, I can imagine what an adventure this trip would have been for anyone in 1966. It was the year of my first flight and a few years before I got to travel abroad. Travel was still pretty exciting in those days and it was amazing what you could get away with if you just "acted like you belonged." I know from first hand experience. Throw in the fact that our protagonist was a stowaway without travel documents or financial resources and the trip indeed becomes an epic. I am lucky to have also experienced sailing on two class ships; a long gone taste of the old world.. I once had a total stranger invite me home for Christmas dinner in London, so the stories of British hospitality rang totally true to me. If you were lucky enough to travel in those days, you know how the world has changed today. Thanks for sharing your adventure.Product details

Six Weeks on the Throne eBook Rick Frey Reviews
Very interesting and keeps your interest from start to finish. Really enjoyed the novel.
A well written true adventure story - I was glued to every page! What a trip for memories by an adventurous 19 year old. This would make a great movie!!
Once I started reading, it was difficult to stop. This amazing true story is full of suspense, excitement and personal insights. It was interesting to follow the path of the author on Google Earth as I was reading, meanwhile enriching my geographical knowledge. The "Lessons Learned" at the end of the book is a nice touch. One might say that this publication is a "Crowning Achievement". I highly recommend this enjoyable adventure.

This book was interesting and a fairly quick read. The thing I think I like most about it is that its the kind of book that I am thinking about weeks after I've finished it. While I was reading it, it was a fun and interesting adventure. Now that the story has had time to marinate the messages and lessons are so powerful I find myself quoting from it. I would recommend this to people.
My older brother from a different mother has never changed. This author might think twice about this adventure these days, about doing this all over again, but in the next moment he'd soon be off. Best to keep him away from ships even though he spent time after this adventure as a US Naval Officer. So much for security checks. Even though I never doubted his story, I did get to accompany him on a visit to the Iberia in Long Beach one year. I got the tour and watched in amazement as he reached behind a wall in one of the throne rooms for a pair of his missed placed madras Bermuda shorts. So much for maintenance on the P&O line. Classic shorts ,classic era, classic guy . Hope you enjoy Rick's story.
I truly enjoyed reading this book. You were constantly wondering if Rick would get caught, or out of fear or discomfort, turn himself in to authorities. It takes you back to a time where there were no cell phones, internet, or other immediate "social" medias. As you follow Rick on his voyage, you are completely amazed at how quickly and easily he makes friends. These friends help him survive, sometimes unknowingly, and become life friends.
I wonder if in this post 9/11 age, when homeland security and worldwide security is so tight, if a curious and energetic person could complete this voyage. I am sure the consequences of being caught would far exceed Rick's fears.
This tale of the adventures of a nineteen-year-old who impulsively stowed away on 2 cruise ships while circumnavigating the world kept me turning the pages. The year was 1966. Yes, Rick Frey had a lot of luck, some help, and even more chutzpah but I was rooting for him from the beginning. He related his journey extremely well for a novice writer. I followed vicariously his roller coaster of emotions as he reflected on his sense of pride, depression, gratitude, loneliness, and elation. He was so close to being caught so many times but he was extremely resourceful. Fortunately he kept a journal for part of the time, took lots of pictures, and was able to draw on these to help with this memoir. What made Six Weeks on the Throne really memorable for me was the conclusion. Rick Frey had grown more and discovered more about himself in one summer than many have the opportunity to do in decades. I cheered as Rick walked those last three blocks to his parents' home. It was truly one of those books I didn't want to end.
